Sustainability

Our mission is to lead the energy transition and contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a clear purpose: to reduce emissions and promote a more sustainable and responsible future. Since our inception, we have avoided the emission of more than 10 million metric tonnes of CO₂, reaffirming our commitment to the planet.

Each Ingenostrum project reflects our commitment to the energy transition, local sustainable development, responsible consumption and the preservation of the environment. This firm commitment to sustainability, deeply rooted in our DNA, together with the great potential of the Spanish market in the group’s business areas, has motivated the support and trust of our strategic partner: Andera Partners (Andera). The investment firm, one of the main private equity funds in France with more than €4 billion under management, is positioned as the ideal partner to accelerate our growth and boost the business in our new verticals.

In its commitment to our group, Andera has valued the fulfilment of various ESG criteria in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include initiatives to protect biodiversity, job creation, sustainable land management and the reduction of CO₂ emissions, among other goals.

Fully aligned with the United Nations, at Ingenostrum we actively contribute to the fulfilment of 10 Sustainable Development Goals:
At Ingenostrum we are collaborators of UNICEF and its programmes to mitigate child poverty and social inequalities.
One of our founding principles is to take care of all our employees, and we work to ensure safe working conditions both inside and outside our offices. We offer additional support in the area of health and have internal tools for the early detection of a good working environment.
We collaborate with educational institutions in the regions where we operate, promoting the development of key skills for the future. Our initiatives include agreements with organisations such as the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) for the development of STEAM programmes and the University of Extremadura where we have supported a chair in energy innovation that seeks to promote quality education and enhance essential skills for the challenges ahead.
The promotion of female leadership is an integral part of our corporate culture and levels, including management positions. Moreover, our agreement with the Complutense University strengthens this commitment, actively promoting equal opportunities: we contribute financially to the awarding of scholarships to encourage their continuous training.
All the water we use is managed sustainably, and we also promote important desalination projects in provinces such as Almería. We have also pioneered the idea of creating an artificial lake that will serve as a natural cooling system for our data centre in Cáceres, using the city’s wastewater. This is a clear example of the circular economy.
Our business vision is committed to the use of clean energy sources. Since 2009 we have been working in the renewable energy sector and none of our projects are designed to use other types of energy.
We lead projects in regions such as Extremadura and Galicia, generating job opportunities that help to combat depopulation and encourage people to settle in the area. In line with our commitment to an emptying Spain, we collaborate with initiatives such as Apadrinaunolivo.org, which promote sustainable development and the revitalisation of rural communities.
We understand innovation to be an inseparable element of the energy transition. For this reason, our sustainable data centres not only run on green energy but are also designed to be fully integrated into environments powered by renewable sources with great respect for the environment.
Economic development is essential to ensure that nobody is left behind. This is why we develop projects that promote social support, integration and sustainable growth in communities in areas such as Almería, Cáceres and Badajoz. We collaborate with non-governmental organisations such as UNICEF to help mitigate imbalance and reduce inequalities.
We are committed to an efficient industry that promotes the circular economy, integrating innovative and sustainable solutions, including advanced energy efficiency systems and innovative projects such as an artificial lake designed for the efficient cooling of systems.
Our projects are designed to actively contribute to decarbonisation, completely eliminating the use of fossil fuels. We firmly believe that, by working together, we can successfully face the climate challenge.
We are collaborating in the revitalisation of abandoned rural areas to provide them with economic activity that will help to boost life in places affected by the depopulation of rural areas in Spain.
We promote strategic agreements with public and private companies and organisations to make progress in key areas such as clean energy and water desalination.

Sustainable growth with Andera

In just three years, we have doubled our revenue thanks to the development of projects in renewable energy, battery storage, data centres and new energy vectors such as green hydrogen, e-methanol and e-ammonia.

With the support of Andera, a management company with more than 10 years’ experience in private equity and a pioneer in green infrastructure investments, we will be able to face the challenges of a dynamic and constantly evolving business environment.

Andera’s purpose is to capture the highest possible volume of responsible investment, ensure the company’s profitable growth, accelerate the preservation of the planet against climate change and promote an inclusive and shared economy, goals that are aligned with our business vision. In this way, our strategic partnership will promote the development of new photovoltaic plants in Spain, a global benchmark in clean energy with privileged access to underwater cables, essential for the data centre infrastructure. We will also expand this growth to other continents.

Carbon neutrality

Spain has consolidated its position as a strategic location for global data centres and our commitment is to achieve carbon neutrality in all our assets. A sustainable approach that has also aroused public interest and support, as demonstrated by the Galicia Green Data Centre project, backed by Impulsa Galicia. The centre, which will operate entirely on renewable energy, will start up in 2025 with a final capacity of 15 MW IT and an initial investment of €51 million, which will reach €400 million in later phases. Inside it will house 30,000 servers to support the storage needs of companies, as well as public entities in the area and even companies from other parts of the country.

The centre will generate 130 jobs in construction and 45 more in its operation, a figure that will double once it is fully operational. This is a major commitment to the Curtis-Teixeiro industrial estate, which the Government of Galicia has identified as one of ten strategic business projects in the region.

Consolidating our position in the sector, in mid-2027 we will launch a similar centre in Cáceres: the CCGreen Campus Data Centre, which aims to become the first carbon-neutral data centre in the European Union (EU). To achieve this goal, two photovoltaic plants will provide clean energy to the facilities, and a large artificial lake will facilitate the cooling of the servers. The CCGreen Campus Data Centre project envisages an investment of around €1.3 billion over several phases, between 2023 and 2030. This centre will require 220 MW for its daily operation, but thanks to all the innovations introduced, it will save up to 70% of energy.

Impact of Green Data: every bit counts

The energy efficiency of our data centres is crucial, especially in view of the rapid growth of these technological infrastructures and their high energy consumption. This challenge is intensified in a context where Artificial Intelligence (AI), which requires large amounts of energy, further increases the demand for electricity. These factors drive us to redouble our efforts in sustainability, as highlighted by Gabriel Nebreda, our CEO: “We cannot multiply electricity consumption without multiplying our efforts in the energy transition”. This is why we are committed to the concept of Green Data. If the management and maintenance of our data centres are carbon neutral and sustainable, the data we store will be too.

At the same time, we are immersed in various research projects aimed at deepening the company’s energy transition, such as the development of hydrogen stations, among other innovative initiatives.

With the backing of Andera Partners, we will continue to focus on innovation and sustainable development and grow with a positive impact in the regions where we operate, promoting social, economic and environmental benefits in both current and future projects. From advanced renewable energy solutions to strategic projects such as green data centres, our mission is clear: to contribute to a cleaner, more efficient and more environmentally friendly future.
